Hey...!
Its not a rumor... Its true...! Read this :
Microsoft introduced a new server-side Windows OS: Windows Server 2008 Foundation. The new flavor of Windows Server is designed as a low-end server operating system that will be made available exclusively to original equipment manufactures, with companies such as Dell and HP already indicating support for the new low-price offering. Responding to the challenges confronted by small businesses in the context of the global economic downturn, Windows Server 2008 Foundation offers the basic functionality and capabilities associated with the higher-grade Windows Server SKUs, with an emphasis on the affordable price.
Now microsoft too is suffering from recession...
Hey!
You got to read this :
Microsoft today expanded its Windows Server family of operating systems with the addition of Windows Server 2008 Foundation. The new product, which is built on Windows Server 2008 but is 64-bit only, is aimed at small businesses with 15 or fewer users. Windows Server 2008 Foundation will provide small business customers the ability to run business applications and databases, host websites, and provide basic server functionality such as file and print sharing and remote access.
Hey!
Microsoft is finally listening to small scale business groups too... Don't believe me...!? Read this :
According to Madlener and Sinkevicious, customers have been asking Microsoft for a simple and cheap server operating system for quite some time. Server 2008 Foundation is an entry-level offering that will be available only through OEM partners like HP, Dell, IBM, and Acer. That means that software is preinstalled and small businesses can start using file and print services off the bat. On the other hand, it also means that the price will be set by the OEM and small businesses will not be able to put the OS on their current server (according to Microsoft, about 30 percent of small businesses have a server). Shipments are expected to start in one to two months.
