This hint should guide you through the process of building a LFSsystem using the LFS live CD as the host operating system. You use
the LFS live CD to boot the computer instead of loading a pre-packaged linux distribution like Debian or Red Hat. This is the"cleanest" way to build a LFS system, since inconsistancies and idiosyncracies of the various distributions are removed.

    hi,
I downloaded freespire_oss_1.0.14.iso. Burned the cd, booted and was offered choices of running as a livecd or installing, all on the first boot window. You might try that. Freespire is the open source version.

    • check the bios of the machine, see that all drives (hdd - hard drives + cdroms or dvd) are set to auto
    • blow out the dust from the computer, if it is very dusty -- that is glue that there may be problems with flaky component action (RAM, interface cards installed, eg video)
    • make sure the inside of the computer case is reasonably clean and free from dust
    • reseat all power and interface cables
    • make sure the power connect to the motherboard is seated ok
    • make sure the system RAM is seated ok
    • After all this is ok, then try an install or run from the live cd to check the hardware detection functions...
    • turning off pnp plug and play in the bios allows only the bios to setup the hardware
    • some motherboards also might need irqpoll option, some may need acpi=off option
