Can't access the Print Screen command in Vista

    Hello Friends,

I had installed Windows Vista on my system. I can't access the Print Screen command function. When i try to press Prt. Screen key or Alt + Prt. Scrn keys on my keyboard, i get nothing on my desktop. I cannot find any images when i go to my MS-Paint. It even shows me that the "Paste" command is been grayed out and i'm unable to access it. Can any body tell me why i'm having such kind of problem on my pc? Can any body help me out to resolve this problem? Any kind of information on it would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

On the top row of your keyboard, to the right of the F12 key, is a key labeled "Print Scrn". In the "olden days", this key actually printed (on your printer) the image that was showing on the screen.

Since the first Windows, this key's function has changed. Now it copies the screen image to the clipboard. If you want to see this in action:

    1. Press the Print Scrn key.

    2. Open a graphics program (like Paint, or even MS Word) and do a paste

    (Right click/Paste or CTRL + V).

    3. You'll see the screen image.

    4. If you want to capture only a window on the screen:

press and hold the ALT key, then the Print Scrn key. The image copied will be only the active window.

    5. If you would like to print the image, use the print command from the graphics program.

    6. If you wish, you can "edit" the image, then save it.Use your graphics program's "Save" command in the "File" menu.

By the way, the image is copied as a .bmp (Bitmap) file, but you can convert to any format you'd like, within the limits of your graphic program

    1. Remove all TSRs except GRAPHICS.COM.
    2. Try a lower resolution. Often, a high resolution graphics card (for example, super VGA) will not print properly using Print Screen.
    3. Check for possible hardware problems. These may include:

    • The BIOS does not support the INT 5 call used for Print Screen
    • The printer does not support the Print Screen options chosen
    • The printer cable is bad
    • The printer is not working correctly

To confirm that the printer is working correctly, try copying a file to the printer port. For example, if the printer is connected to COM1, type the following command from the command prompt: copy c:\autoexec.bat com1

Usually you press SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN to copy the screen to the clipboard. Once there, it must be pasted into a graphics program like Photoshop.
