    To shorten file type description

For each file, we know there are different columns providing its detail description. Also, the file type column provides long entries such as Microsoft Word Document and Microsoft HTML Document 5.0.

My question is - is there any way I can reduce or shorten the filetype description ?
    thnx....

Re: To shorten file type description

To shorten these descriptions, you can edit the file type. For instance, you can change Microsoft Word Document to DOC - Word Document, adding the file extension and deleting the commercial.

In Windows 98 or Windows Me
    • Open Windows Explorer >> Choose View >> Folder Options >> and click the File Types tab.
    • Scroll through the list until you find the file type you want to change.
    • Click the Edit button and change the text in the Description of type box.
    • Click OK to save your changes.

    In Windows XP
    • Choose Tools >> Folder Options >> click the File Types tab.
    • Select the file type you want to change and then click the Advanced button.
    • Make your change in the editing box at the top and click OK.

Re: To shorten file type description

You can change the file ‘Type’ description for different file types using the Folder Options dialog box.

    - Open My Computer and click Folder Options from the Tools menu. Select the File Types tab.
    - From the list of file types, select the one you want to change the description for, such a DOC and click the Advanced button.
    - Type in the new description in the field at the top of the dialog box and click OK.
    - Click OK again to close the Folder Options dialog box.
