hie friends,
I have recently upgraded my computer system from Windows XP to Windows Vista. Here, the notification area balloons frequently popsup which is really annoying.

You can do this by using registry editor method.
- Click Start --- Run --- type Regedit.exe
- Navigate to the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced- Create a new REG_DWORD (32 bit) value named EnableBalloonTips
- Double-click EnableBalloonTips, and then assign a value data of 0
- Exit the Registry Editor
- Log off Windows, and then log back on.
This applies to both Windows Vista as well as Windows XP
Alternate method -
- Start and type GPEDIT.MSC
- Accept the User Account Control prompt
- Navigate to the following branch:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar
- Double-click Turn off all balloon notifications and set it to Enabled
- Close Group Policy Editor
- Log off Windows, and then log back on.
Here is the corresponding registry value for the above setting:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer
"TaskbarNoNotification"=dword:00000001
There is a way to completely turn off task bar balloon notifications using a registry edit hack.
To do this, start the registry editor and navigate to this section:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER> Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer Advanced
- Once you get there right-click on an empty area of the right side of the window and select New > 32-bit DWORD. Give the new entry the name EnableBalloonTips and a value of 0.
- Once you are done, you'll need to reboot for the change to take effect. But once you do, the task bar balloon notifications will be completely turned off.
