    Printer's not showing in Directory

    I have set up a second print server in our company and something strange is going on. lets call the server
    prntsrv

    anyway, when users try to add it, and they click "find now" in the add printer wizard, it won't show up, however, if they type the full path \\prntsrv\printer, it works! If I restart the print spooler and wait 5 mins, the printers who up in the directory.. but, wait a day or two, and they dissapear. either way, you can still print to the printers no problem...

    I have made sure when configuring the printer, that it is listed in the directory. Restarting the print spooker seems to solve the issue, but, it keeps re-occuring. funny thing is, adding the printer via unc seems to work fine

    Can you just browse to them in network neighborhood, right click on them and select "connect"? If they are shared on the network, this is the easiest way to do it. Maybe the users are not logging onto the domain. Reboot the server. I have seen this help when users can't connect reliably to NT and 2000 servers.

    Re: Printer's not showing in Directory

    When you publish a printer in Active Directory, the printer may not be displayed in the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

    This behavior can occur if the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in is not set to view users, groups, and computers as containers.

    Start the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.
    On the View menu, click Users, Groups, and Computers as containers.

    on the server or pc you have installed the printer

    Start > run > cmd {enter} > net stop spooler {enter} Net start Spooler {enter}

    By default you cannot see Printers in Active directory, even if you ticked the "List In Directory" option when you set them up. You can however locate them as follows,

    Start Active Directory Users and Computers (under administrative tools)
    Right click your domain name and select FIND
    Change the default setting of "Users, Contacts and Groups" to "Printers"
    And select "Find Now"

    You will see the printers listed below.

    To set Active Directory users and computers to list them all the time select View > select "Users, Groups and Computers as containers"Then simply select the computer (in the computers OU) or the Domain controller (In the Domain Controllers OU" and the printers available on that machine will be visible on the right hand pane.
