Hello , Create a maple.desktop file in /usr/share/applications. This will put it into the menu and will also control the file associations. Use another file as a template, it's not that hard. Check back if you need help.

    Re: Gnome File association Problem

Currently, without a defaults.list file, gnome is essentially picking at random what to use in association with a file when double-clicked, be it kde or gnome programs. Now, with a defaults.list file, it's possible to tell gnome where to go for different file types. As KDE uses a different system(and will until/if freedesktop.org adopts defaults.list as a standard), it would appear, to me at least, that the best course of action is to create a standard defaults.list that uses all gnome applications, and drop that in a package that's grouped with gnome.

when you right click -> open with -> can you see acrobat reader in the menu? also (if it is installed in your home folder) you can make a link:

    ln -s /home/user/Acrobat/acroread /usr/local/bin

this helps when running from a command line, I don't think this will change anything though. Please specify where it is and how you normally start it (acroread)
