wuaueng.dll - Error in Event Viewer

    Hello,

I get in my event viewer suddenly the following error messages:

    Source: ESENT
    Event ID: 411
wuaueng.dll (1056) The version of the protocol and the version of the database do not fit together.

    Someone knows what that means?

My system: Windows 2000 Prof with all patches and updates.

But until now these messages to appear without my system that I recently changed or new installations have been made.

    Hi

Which version of file do you have and where is it?

On my system there are three times the file:

    C:\WINNT\Service Pack Files \ i386 (5.4.3630.2554)
    C:\WINNT\system32 (5.8.0.2469)
    C:\WINNT\system32\dllcache (5.8.0.2469)

Have you updated latest patches ?

    Hi,

    Try this :
    1. Verified it's auto updates.
    2. Turned off such that it doesn't start at boot (system tray
    3. shows X over automatic updates shield).
    4. Go to Control Panel and turn AU on. SVCHOST task #920 CPU loop for about 2 minutes.

    WindowsUpdate.log doesn't show anything I can understand.

    Hello,

Try to run System File Checker.

System File Checker (sfc.exe) replaces damaged system files.

Load your XP CD in your CD drive.

Start | Run | Type or paste: sfc /scannow | Click OK

If you have XP Home and it asks for your XP Pro CD, see this KB article...

You may be prompted to insert a Windows XP Professional CD when you run the System File Checker tool in Windows XP Home Edition
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897128

If SFC.EXE did anything it will be in the Event Viewer.

    Open the Event Viewer...
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | Click OK |
Click System | Look at any Windows File Protection
    entries

Explains a whole bunch about sfc.exe.
    scannow sfc (sfc.exe)
