To reassign drive-letters in Win XP ?

When I install Windows XP on my system, I assign the drives with the Alphabetical letters as C, D, E, F etc... But when I install new drives the existing drive letters tends to change...

How can I reassign these drive-letters in my XP ?

Drive letters cannot be assigned at the format time, but however you can change the drive-letters. It's quite easy to change them, and I do it all the time.

RULE - You can change every drive except "C:" (bcoz. "C:" is special - system drive)

    To change/reassign drive letters -

    > Right click on My Computer and click on Manage.

    > Now, click on Disk Management.

    > To change the drive letter assigned to a drive, right click on the drive in disk manager.

    > Click on Change Drive Letter and Paths - you will get the dialog box.

    > Click on the Change button for this dialog.

    > Clicked on the dropdown list that will allow me to select which of the available drive letters I want to assign.

Here's how to reassign the drive letters.
    1. Right-click My Computer.
    2. Choose Manage.
    3. Click Disk Management.
    4. Right-click the drive you want to rename.
    5. Select Change Drive Letter or Path.
    6. Select your new drive letter.

Note - You cannot change a drive letter to a drive letter that already exists, and you cannot change your boot drive.

To change an existing drive letter on a drive, follow these steps -

    1. Log on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
    2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance.
    3. Click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management in the left pane.
    4. Right-click the drive, the partition, the logical drive, or the volume that you want to assign a drive letter to, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
    5. Click Change.
    6. Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK.
    7. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the drive letter change.
