Where are the thumbnails in Vista???

I just installed Vista and man, does it suck big time.

So how, exactly, do i get actual thumbnails to show up in dialog boxes? lets say i open a folder and want to select a photo. in XP, it makes little thumbnails so you can see what the photos are. In Vista, that does not happen, there are just generic icons, are they f*ck*ng craxz? What is Vista 2 or 3 steps backwards?

In Control Panel (Classic View) > Folder Options > View tab, un-check
"Always show icons, never thumbnails" (Apply, OK).

If you are still having this problem then you can try this solution

    • open (my computer)
    • right click on a blank area of the screen and select (properties)
    • select (advanced system settings) from the left of the window
    • select (performance)
    • select (adjust for best performance) then click apply
    • when its changed select (let windows choose wht's best for my computer) then apply

    fixed.

if you have already figured this out then well done.

Right click on computer, select properties, and then edit the visual performance settings, so that it is set to run in the most visually appealing mode rather than fastest. You may need to reboot but thumbnails should work after that.

    • Go into Start > Pictures
    • Click the "Organize" Dropdown and click "Folder and Search Options"
    • Under the "General" tab click "Show Previews and Filters"
    • Under the "View" tab, make sure "Always show icons, never
    • thumbnails" is UNCHECKED. I also CHECKED "Display file icon on
    • thumbnails", for non-image files.
    • Click "Apply" then "OK".Hope this helps

    1. Open the Start Menu.
    2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
    3. Click Continue for the UAC prompt.
    4. In the left pane, click on User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar.
    5. In the right pane, right click on Turn off taskbar thumbnails and click Properties.
    6. To Enable Taskbar Thumbnails -
    * Dot Disabled or Not Configured and click OK.
    * Go to step 8.
    7. To Disable Taskbar Thumbnails -
    * Dot Enabled and click OK.
    8. Close the Group Policy Object Editor window.
    9. Logoff and logon, or restart the computer to apply the changes.
