Problems with fraps on vista

hi,
I got the trial version of fraps, and it works fine, cept can only record 30 secs, so i got the registered version. I hit record and after I'm done recording what I want, I click to playback the video and it says that it can't read it cause I don't have the proper codec.If fraps indeed doesnt work on vista, any tips of other programs that work similar would be of a great help.
