How to remove ipodservice.exe process ?

hi,
i have Q6700 3.5 Stable
Motherboard XfX 790i Ultra
GeForce 8800 GTX OC
Corsair Memory 2 GB PC3200 DDR RAM,the problem was running slow,when I was monitoring the Windows Task Manager’s Process List and I found ipodservice.exe. Does any one knows about ipodservice ? Is it any system process or user process ? I have been using symantic Antivirus and it has not detected it as virus or worm, so is it related to any spy ware? Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix it? Any help will be extremely appreciated.

WinXP Pro Registry key for this file is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Userdata\S-1-5-18\Components\E141724DB89E22. The usual path is C:\Program files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe. There is also a reference to the file in the registry for programs that run at startup/ Login. The registry entry is located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. I feel that any program with a path that includes both "install" and " User Data" ;runs in the backgound and requires registry editing to disable is suspicious.

The ipodservice.exe process is a utility used to download mp3 files for your iPod. If you do not use it, or do not have an iPod you can safely remove this process.

ipodservice.exe is an application that does NOT appear to be a security risk

The Process Server database currently registers ipodservice.exe to Apple.

This is part of Apple iPod drivers.

Probably the easiset way to disable them is to run msconfig and uncheck them from the startup tab. You can delete the entries from the registry but its probably easier to to it this way for you.

Probably just go to RUN in the start menu and type msconig. Then remove them from the Startup tab. That's how I've done it in the past.
