Problems installing the Fax Services on XP and SP2

    hi,
I formatted a computer that was running windows 98 so I could install winXP on it.I have a problem installing the Fax services through "Add or Remove Programs" in Control Panel. During the installation, from the cd, it tells me "setup cannot copy file [filename]".I have also tried to do a complete reinstall of XP and then adding SP2 but still the same ERROR. Any help will be extremely appreciated.

    hi,
It sounds like the CD-ROM could be corrupted. Do you have another Windows XP CD you could try? If you delete all the partitions, redo them in NTFS, do a full format, and try again with a new CD that should work.

This issue may occur when one of the following conditions is true: The Secedit.sdb database file is corrupted. The Windows Components Wizard (Sysocmgr.exe) must install files in such a way that both the original Windows XP Professional CD and the Windows XP Professional SP2 CD must be available.

have you tried a clean install? or is that what you were trying to do?
also, what is the message at the top and the STOP error code, e.g STOP: 0x000006b and can you boot into safemode (press F8 on startup screen, as soon as computer is turned on)?
