location of downloaded files through Microsoft Update

Hello,
Could you tell me what is the location of the files downloaded through Microsoft Update? I just wanted to make sure if it doesnt gets installed in Windows folder? thank you

It automatically installs in the system and it creates a file in the root of c: in order to uninstall. It is at the top of the Windows folder of all files that start with §.

Standard Microsoft updates is store under the folder "WsusContent" on the disk you selected during the installation

Manually added updates, 3-partner updates and Software is stored under the folder "UpdateServicesPackages" on the disk you selected during the installation

Please check whether the update has been set to store locally.

1. Navigate to Administration Area.

2. Click “Settings”.

3. Select to ”Update Files and Language”.

4. Ensure that you have ticked “Store Update files locally on this server.” and ”Download update files to this server only when updates are approved…”.

Please ensure that you have settings on “Auto-Approvals”.
1. Re-run steps 1-2.

2. Select to “Auto-Approvals”.

3. Ensure that you have select ”Automatic approval the latest reversion of the update” and settings on “Approvals” are right.

If the above information has not been set, then please run “ Configure Microsoft Update Settings Wizard”.

Every update that is available on Microsoft Update is made up of two components:
1. Update information (also called metadata). Metadata consists of the properties of an update, and is typically much smaller than the actual update file package. –SUSDB database

2. Update files are the actual files required to install an update on a computer.- WSUSContent folder

So update content are store in WSUSContent folder on the server.

They are stored temporarily in the softwaredistribution folder under windows and then are deleted in approximately 10 days.
