Re: Not able to shutdown computer

This issue may occur when the selective suspend functionality is enabled on a device that does not support it. This situation may occur when two or more USB-based devices have the same vendor and product identification numbers, and when only one of the devices supports the selective suspend functionality.

To disable power management on the USB hub:
  • Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  • Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand it, right-click USB Root Hub, and then click Properties.
  • Click the Power Management tab.
  • Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.

You can also alter the startup menu of your computer in order to prevent applications that you do not even need to run in the background, which may cause your computer to not shut down properly.

If you perform the following procedure, your computer will be able to shut down correctly. However, this procedure may also reduce the battery life on a portable computer.

To disable power management on the USB hub:

1. Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
2. Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand it, right-click USB Root Hub, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Power Management tab.
4. Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.
