Outlook 2003 very slow on vista, memory leak?

I have installed my Outlook 2003 on my new windows vista laptop with 1GB of ram. Outlook seems to be running painfully slow. I also noticed in the task manager the Outlook is gobbling up memory it starts out at about 15 MB and has been as high as 300 MB of ram. I read some postings that I should create a profile and .pst from scratch. I did that but this does not seem to make a difference. Any ideas?

It's possible your system is overloaded by Vista. Do you have similar problems in MS Word?

What is your 'Vista Experience Index?' - you can read it off the Computer - Properties screen - right click 'Computer' in the Start menu and left click 'Properties'

How are you connected to the Internet? Cable/DSL or dialup?

Sorry for more questions, but we need enought informaiton to make sense of the problem.

A new .PST is probably not necessary, however, a new profile won't hurt at all. I've seen some really bizarre Outlook behavior cured completely by simply creating a new profile.

I have narrowed down the problem on this but do not know why it is happening. I found that it was occurring after I imported the Calendar from my XP machine. I created a new PST file for my default and everything was fine. No memory leak no performance problems. As soon as I imported the Calendar items (which goes back to 2001) the memory began climbing and the performance degrades. I cleaned the calender items out of the default PST and copied only the items from 1/2007 and forward and I don't appear to have the problem anymore.
