Hi,
I have built my own PC that I've had for about 10years now and recently upgraded the RAM, CPU fan, hard drives (original 20GB hard drive is used for OS) and PSU. Every 3 or so times I start the PC there is an automatic reboot prior to Windows loading or once Windows has loaded I get the 'Windows recovered from a serious error' message. I also got a STOP error once which mentioned a driver: tmcomm.sys which I believe is Trend Micro which I've since deleted as I don't use that software but the problem persists.
I then tried to repair windows by booting from the Windows CD but each time I seem to get a different error.
1st time: usbstor.sys is corrupt
2nd: usbccgp.sys is corrupt
3rd: FILE \i386\vgaoem.fon could not be loaded. The error code is 7
Then I ran CHKDSK /R using the Recovery Console and then tried to boot from the Windows CD but the errors kept coming!
4th time: INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 8192
5th time: vga.sys is corrupted
I've just tried to look at the minidump file using WinDbg but the file cannot be opened because it is corrupt!!
I don't have a problem when the PC is actually running but there is clearly a problem that needs sorting.
I am running XP SP3 and I regularly check for malware / viruses.
Please help.
Cheers.
