Problems trying to repair XP from CD - various errors

    Hi,

I have built my own PC that I've had for about 10years now and recently upgraded the RAM, CPU fan, hard drives (original 20GB hard drive is used for OS) and PSU. Every 3 or so times I start the PC there is an automatic reboot prior to Windows loading or once Windows has loaded I get the 'Windows recovered from a serious error' message. I also got a STOP error once which mentioned a driver: tmcomm.sys which I believe is Trend Micro which I've since deleted as I don't use that software but the problem persists.

I then tried to repair windows by booting from the Windows CD but each time I seem to get a different error.

    1st time: usbstor.sys is corrupt
    2nd: usbccgp.sys is corrupt
3rd: FILE \i386\vgaoem.fon could not be loaded. The error code is 7

Then I ran CHKDSK /R using the Recovery Console and then tried to boot from the Windows CD but the errors kept coming!

4th time: INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 8192
    5th time: vga.sys is corrupted

I've just tried to look at the minidump file using WinDbg but the file cannot be opened because it is corrupt!!

I don't have a problem when the PC is actually running but there is clearly a problem that needs sorting.

I am running XP SP3 and I regularly check for malware / viruses.

    Please help.

    Cheers.

    Hi,
I suggest you clean install Windows on your computer, there might be any infection on your computer that may have already corrupted your files and you are facing the problems now... Also check the installation media on other computer might be it is corrupt...! Also install a genuine antivirus software...
    All the best!

My Humble opinion would be you may just try to Use the Fresh XP installation CD to complete your windows installation it may possible that from your existing CD, drivers or some file may be corrupted or system could not read them, so try using this option..
