Problem with status 0xc00000f / winload.exe Error

hello

I have a Sony Vaio VGN N230N with Vista BusPro as an operating system recently installed. I went for Windows updates and it started installing upon reboot screen with the title Windows Boot Manager. And then after some time Windows failed to start. It asks for an Installation disk which i don’t have and the file it shows in question is \windows\system32\winload.exe
Status 0xc000000f.
application is missing or corrupt. Is there any way around for fixing it?

To boot it from the DVD you have to change the Boot Menu in BIOS to make the
CD/DVD drive 1st in the Boot Order, save the changes, and reboot then with
the disk in the drive.. Then do a Startup Repair

That involves hitting Delete at startup, and going into BIOS.

Save yourself some heartache.
It is brand new, and under Warranty.
Take it back and exchange it for a new one!
Failing an exchange; get them to fix it.

For the future, what you were trying to do in Safe Mode with the DVD, you
can't.
You HAVE to reboot from the Vista DVD to do a startup repair.

1. In order to start the Windows Recovery Environment you must boot your computer off of the Windows Vista DVD that you purchased or that came with your computer. To start this process, insert the Vista DVD into your DVD drive and turn your computer on.

2. As you want to boot the computer from the Windows Vista DVD you need to press a key, and any key will do, on your keyboard when you see the above prompt. After you press the key, you should hear your DVD reader spinning up and then you will see a black screen with a white status bar at the bottom stating Windows is loading files.... After a while, the status bar will turn completely white and you will see a screen stating that Windows is loading. The Windows Setup environment will continue to load

3. Configure the Language to install, Time and currency format, and Keyboard or input method options so that they are set correctly. When done, press the Next button. You will now be at the main Windows Vista setup screen where you would normally install Vista on to a computer.

4. As we want to repair the computer, you should click on the Repair your computer option. This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer. When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box

5. Select the Vista installation you would like to repair and if there are drivers you need to load in order for Vista to access any of your drives or other components , then you should click on the Load Drivers button to load them. When ready, press the Next button to continue. The automatic recovery will search and fix the problem.

First be sure to have the bootsec utility on your Vista, XP drive or on an USB drive (it supposed to come with the Vista DVD but you can find it with some tools like EasyBCD, anyway be sure to have it somewhere accessible from the Vista Repair Console)
Boot with the Vista DVD
Open the Repair Console, then the Command Prompt
Identify your Vista drive letter and your XP driver letter (if you have it installed)
For me Vista is on the E: drive and XP on the C: drive
On the XP partition be sure that you have no C:\Boot folder. if you have one, make a backup and then remove it
On the Vista partition, be sure that you have a backup of the E:\Boot folder and then delete it
Using Bootrec, do
bootsect /nt52 c: (so the XP partition will only boot XP)
bootsect /nt60 e: (so Vista partition can boot Vista)
bootrec /fixboot
You may have to reboot and go again in the Vista Repair Console
Now, bootrec /scanos should tell you that it has found 1 Vista installation
Try bootrec /rebuildbcd
Now for some reasons, the BCD file is located on the C:\ so if I reboot now, the Vista bootloader will again says ‘The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information’. So, move the file C:\Boot\BCD to E:\Boot\ (move C:\Boot\BCD E:\Boot\) and reboot
Vista should boot now.
