How can I disable certain services in Windows XP ?

I have Windows XP installed on my computer. I’m not familiar with XP’s capability and features. So, I’m asking you which services can I disable in Windows XP? I heard from a friend that disabling services can be a way to improve your computers performance. I don’t know how to disable some specific service. Can some one help me?

    To Enable/Disable Services in XP:
    • Click the Start button.
    • Click on Control Panel.
    • Click on Administrative Tools.
    • Click Services.
    • Once the Services window has loaded, you will be able to turn off any unneeded services.
    • Find the service not required and select it with the mouse.
    • Right click and select Properties.
    • Once the Properties windows has loaded find the Startup type drop down box and select Disable.
    • Then finally click Ok
    • Close Services, and restart the computer. The computer will start without the disabled services being loaded.
