Re: Problem with file search

hi,
Open Explorer and go to the Windows\inf folder. Locate the srchasst.inf file. Right click it and select Install. You'll need your XP CD or the files from the i386 folder. The Windows\inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust your Explorer Folder Options (View tab) to Show hidden files and folders. You can also click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%\inf to open directly to the inf folder.

Re: Problem with file search

To find system files, you have to be able to view them also:
Double-Click "My Computer", double-click the "Local Disk,Click "Tools", "Folder Options", click the "View" tab, under "Files and Folders", check everything except "Do not cache thumbnails".Under "Hidden files and Folders", check "Show hidden files and folders".Uncheck "Hide extensions....", and "Hide protected..." check the box, "Remember each folder's view setting", click "Apply", "OK".

Re: Problem with file search

A filter component is not registered for the file type that contains the text that you specified, or the filter component ignored the text that you specified. For a file type to be included in the search results when you use the A word or phrase in the file search criterion, a valid filter component must be registered for that file type. Windows XP registers filter components only for file types that are associated with common document types.get more help from here.

Re: Problem with file search

  • Go to Start->Run and type Regedit.exe
  • Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and find the file extension of the “problematic” file
  • Check to see if there is a sub key named PersistentHandler
  • If the key PersistentHandler does not exist create it under file extension.
  • Now click on the new PersistentHandler key and on the right pane double click the Default value
  • In the new dialog box enter the following value data {5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb} . Do not enter the Value name
  • Repeat for other file types you want to search in.
  • Close Regedit and restart Windows
