    Windows Vista update error 0x80072efd

Since few days I'm not able to proceed with Windows Update further. I tried several system restores back a day or so each time, no effect.

I get error code: 0x80072efd, also while trying to download some patches manually I receive 0x80072EE2 error during genuine validation.

I don't know if this is a OS problem or a software problem. Can anyone tell me how I can fix it? I have 64 bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium SP1.

Do you want to say that you are connected for updating Windows but when updating, you are getting this error? If not and you are unable to connect to Microsoft update then see your internet connection is proper. Have you checked your firewall settings if it is blocking the connection?

This error may occur when access to the Windows Update site is blocked because one or more of the following conditions is true:

    • A firewall on your computer or local network is interfering with your connection to the Windows Update site.
    • The Windows Update Web site is mapped to a specific IP address in the HOSTS file on your computer. Microsoft does not recommend the use of entries for the Windows Update Web site in the HOSTS file because the IP addresses for the site can change. NB: This issue has been reported with Internet enhancement programs that can add entries to your HOSTS file without your knowledge.
    • The MTU setting on your router is too high/low.
    • Proxy server settings are interfering with your connection to the Windows Update site.
    • Norton Internet Security 2003 may be blocking access.

Every Windows operating system has a registry. The registry holds information about your computer and determines your computer performance. Did you notice that after a short period of time, your computer no longer works as fast as it used to be? This is caused by invalid entries that exist in your system registry. These entries might exist because of software you no longer using or software that was not properly removed. Note that adware & spyware will always cause damage to your windows registry. Even though they are properly removed, they will always leave a broken registry.

    • Too much activity on the update site
    • High Internet activity
    • Recoverable database errors
