Error code 0x80004005 in windows vista

    Hi,
I am using windows vista and download Itunes when i try to install i got this message VBScript is not installed. I run command prompt and typed "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" and received the following message: The module "vbscript.dll" was loaded but the call to DIIRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005.

Can anyone point me to just "how" I would go about installing VBScript on my system ?

    Here's how to do it:

UAC, otherwise known as UAP (User Account Control/User Account Protection) in previous builds is another one of those features that just seems to get in the way of doing your work. This feature is designed with the average user in mind who needs this kind of protection to keep themselves out of trouble. If you are reading this then chances are you know how to manage your own system. Here is how to disable UAP:

    1. Press the Windows Key + R (winkey + R).
    2. At the run prompt, type "msconfig" without the quotes.
    3. Go to the Tools tab, scroll down and select "Disable UAP" and click the run button.
    4. You should see a command prompt open and it will say "Command completed successfully".
    5. Reboot and enjoy the freedom to control your system as you wish.

On your keyboard, hit Windows key and R key together.

    Type "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" without quote.

    Click OK.

If you see the message "DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\vbscript.dll succeeded," you are ready to go.

    Try installing the iTunes again.

Re: Error code 0x80004005 in windows vista

I've searched a lot on this topic and still can't figure it out.

I can't register vbscript.dll either, even with cmd elevated to administrator. I've also tried 'runas' from the command line. No dice. My account is administrator, and I've elevated all runs to administrator. I've created a batch file with the regsvr32 command, and run that .bat as administartor. Long story short, my OS doesn't respect the elevated runas. Any ideas?

To resolve the problem, repair the installation of Microsoft Windows XP by using the Windows XP CD, and then replace the files. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the Windows XP CD in the CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer. When you receive the following message, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD:
Press any key to boot from CD

Note Your computer must be configured to start from the CD drive or DVD drive. For more information about how to configure your computer to start from the CD drive or DVD drive, see the documentation that came with your personal computer or contact the manufacturer.
    2. When you receive the following message, press R to start the Recovery Console:
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:

To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation by using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
    3. Press 1 to access your primary drive installation with Recovery Console.
    4. When you are prompted to do so, type the administrator password. If you have not set an administrator password, press ENTER to continue.
    5. Type cd %SystemRoot%\System32, and then press ENTER.
    6. Rename the following files by using the REN command. To do so, follow this syntax:
    • REN file_name.extension file_name.old
    • Wpa.dbl
    • Pidgen.dll
    • Actshell.html
    • Licdll.dll
    • Regwizc.dll
    • Licwmi.dll
    • Wpabaln.exe

    7. Type the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon (for example, "D:"), and then press ENTER.
    8. Type cd i386, and press ENTER.
    9. Type the following commands one at a time. Press ENTER after each command:
    • expand licwmi.dl_ %systemroot%\system32
    • expand regwizc.dl_ %systemroot%\system32
    • expand licdll.dl_ %systemroot%\system32
    • expand wpabaln.ex_ %systemroot%\system32
    • expand wpa.db_ %systemroot%\system32
    • expand actshell.ht_ %systemroot%\system32
    • copy pidgen.dll %systemroot%\system32

    10. Type Exit and press ENTER to restart the computer.
