    * If you are in the Category View, select Switch to Classic View.
    * Click <Sound and Audio Devices>.
    * Select the <Sounds> tab.

    If you have your whole desktop the way you like it including your sounds, then go to display properties, themes and click on "save as", type in a name that you want and then save. It will most likely be saved into your documents when you need to look for it later. This should also save your sound theme.

    I wanted to do the same thing. I found this interesting thread Alter Startup and Shutdown Audio Files in MS Windows. It will definitely work for you.

    Hai
    browse to C:\Windows\Media and find the files with the names
    Windows XP Start.wav
    Windows XP Startup.wav
    Windows XP Shutdown.wav
    make a backup of these in some other location.
    Now make ur ringtone or any other sound u wanted in to the same wav format.
    now copy these sounds to this location with the same name and restart the machine.
    Now the machine souds get changed.

    Becareful that the size of the wav files is to be less in Kbs.

    if the files are large then the sound may not be heared.

    Have a gud hacking
