a cabinet file cannot be trusted

    Hi,
I' m having this Problem, I'm using a HP Pavilion DV1000 with windows XP, I did try to download DirectX 9.0 but kept getting different messages saying 'a cabinet file cannot be trusted' etc, I'm fairly sure it is a problem with not having the new DirectX file, but would desperately like some help or suggestions.
    Thanks for help

Here are a few solutions for the DirectX 9 "Logo Testing" error, as well as other errors when trying to install patches or updates:

Here's a quick solution to try before reading through the other steps:
    1. Start the Administrative Tools utility in Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Services.
    3. Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties.
    4. Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start

If that doesn't work, Try the resolutions in this recently released MS article:

For those of you receiving the Cabinet file cannot be trusted error while trying to download and install DirectX, forget the "websetup" feature and download the full (redist) package HERE.

This problem happens in most cases due to system corruption or if users disabling their cryptography services.

Resolution:-Make sure your Cryptography services are enabled. To do this:-

    1. Click Start>Run>Type services.msc>OK
    2. Now in the Services(Local) list scroll down to Cryptographic Services.
    3. Right click on it and select Properties;make sure that the Stratup type of this service is Automatic. If not make it Automatic
    4. Also make sure that this service has strated;if not then click the Start button.
    5. Apply/Ok.
