Repair a corrupted Registry without the Windows CD

Hi,

My bro using Hp laptop and he is licensed OEM user of windows XP. and keep getting this error :

Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate

So i think XP's registry is corrupted now but how should i repair it ? He don't have a Setup CD.
Please help me , thanks for any advice.

You can simply bring your laptop to the service center and they will upgrade your windows XP. And other solution is there are many registry repair tools are available that you have to buy and you can't trust on them I think you need to goto service center otherwise buy a WIndows XP license copy.

to fix the problem, you need the Installation cd, put it in, start the setup, and enter repair console when the first blue menu comes up.

In repair console, you have to copy the windows\repair directory to system32\config

After the files have been copyed, Well maybe might be better if you only copy the SECURITY file. so no login details get changed.

Then restart the pc and see if it worked. If not your going to have to perform a repair installation from the xp cd.

Try a system restore to a previous time when this error didn't occur. Do u remember what software did u install after which this error occured? Do not install the error causing softwares. Always buy genuine softwares for better functioning of your computer.
