Windows Crashes Fastfat.sys Error

Hello,

My windows Xp unfortunately crashes and when i restart It started the comup a blue screen with the error "Fastfat.sys" sometimes it is really annoying. Data from being processed texts, etc. are apparently not lost. The system will then normally high without error.

I have all updates of XP. SP3 is installed with all security updates. The phenomenon seems to be independent.

The system disk C: 250 GB is formatted with NTFS, including the external WD My Book 500 GB hard drive to USB, 4 GB RAM with sufficient faster Intel dual-core processor.

My question to the forum: What could be the blue screen error is? How could you with an analysis of the things?

Fastfat.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 143360 bytes (89% of all occurrence), 145152 bytes, 144768 bytes.The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. The file is a Windows system file. The program is not visible. There is no detailed description of this service. File Fastfat.sys is a Microsoft signed file. Fastfat.sys seems to be a compressed file. Therefore the technical security rating is 1% dangerous, however also read the users reviews.

This is a Windows 2000 Executive character-mode STOP message. It indicates an attempt was made to touch pageable memory at a process IRQL (interrupt request level) that is too high. This is usually caused by drivers using incorrect addresses. The fourth parameter in the message parameter list is the memory address at which the fault happened. The second parameter shows the IRQL. If the IRQL was not equal to 2, then the interrupt most likely came from a driver. Compare the memory address in the fourth parameter with the base addresses of the drivers in the driver table on the STOP screen to find the driver that is the problem. Note that the third parameter encodes read/write access (0 = read, 1= write).

What to do
If this is the first time you have booted after installing new hardware, remove the hardware and boot again. Check the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the hardware and its drivers are compatible with Windows 2000. For information about the hardware, contact the supplier. If you are installing Windows 2000 for the first time, check the Windows 2000 system requirements, including the amount of RAM and disk space required to load the operating system. Also, check the Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the system can run Windows 2000. If Windows 2000 is loaded and no new hardware has been installed, reboot with recovery options set to create a dump file. Here are the easiest way to combat the problem; 1-Insert your winrowsXP CD-ROM 2-Reset your PC, and choose to boot from cd. -If you don't get that option, go into your BIOS, using F1 or Delete on most computers [if not hold INSERT while your PC is off, then turn the PC on (while still holding insert key) and keep holding insert untill you get a keboard error message. Then goto the BIOS configuration and look for the boot order and ensure your CD drive is first. 3-Allow the computer to go through the process which appears to be installing windowsXP. 4-When (3) is complete choose the option to use the recovery console. 5-Tap in the WindowsXP system, you would press 1 for most computers, and press enter. 6-type the following- COPY D:\I386\FASTFAT.SY_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\FASTFAT.SYS (where d:\ is your cd drive which you have WinXP cdrom & where c: is your hard drive where WinXP is installed) 7-Hit Y to overwrite, if you get the option. 8-Once the file has copied, and automaticly decompressed, take your WindowsXP CD-ROM from you cd drive. 9-Type EXIT Your computer should boot and run with no problems. Assuming FASTFAT.SYS was your only problem.
