What is thumbs.db File?

Hi! I've recently installed Windows Vista after crashing it for the 7th time. to make sure there is no hidden virus file i turned on the option from folder option to show all files. Now i've thumbs.db file in almost all my folders. what is this file exactly? i'm not a computer expert, so please don't laugh at me for this! Need Help!

Don't worry its not a virus file. its a thumbnail related file not sure though!

All you need to do about this file is forget! its not a virus or stuff. This file is created in a folder when you view your folder contents with thumbnail view. It stands for THUMBnail DataBase

its a file which keeps all the copy of images in that folder. it would unnecessarily occupy space. if you want to disable the same, you can do that

How do you restore the original from a thumbs.db file? Most of my scanned photos and documents are now unavailable to me and I need to restore them to original full size.

Please send info copy to airfredd22@yahoo.com since I'm not sure that I can find my way back to the response page. This would be a much more helpful site if it were better organized.
