system32\printer.exe file not found message

Hello, when I switch on my pc running Windows XP I got the message `Windows cannot find C:\WINDOWS\system32\printer.exe." this error message started when my pc was infected and i use the avg antivirus removal tool to remove it Also when trying to remove errors using windows defender, I am getting errors 0x80508026, 0x80501001 and are unable to delete, then telling me to delete the archive they are in. Which I believe means editing the registry.

Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It is a sympton of the virus. Perhaps the startup setup still attempts to install the bogus file.Msconfig will let you check the programs that are loaded during startup.

what you need to do Go to start menu, slect run and type msconfig and press enter Go to the startup tab and see if you can find a line referencing: printer.exe. If there is, remove the mark from the box in front of the line. When you reboot, there will be a notice mark the box not to show it again.
