Re: setup boot disks

Are you installing XP fresh copy of SP2 by formatting the previous SP1? While doing so, it CD used for the Windows XP SP2 installation must be a bootable disk, otherwise you may get that message.

The set up floppy disks should only be used when,
  • You are installing a new, full retail version of Windows XP.

Note: An upgrade installation of Windows XP does not require the Setup disks.

  • You have a working CD drive, but you cannot start your computer from your CD-ROM.

  • You can start your computer from a floppy disk drive.

Re: setup boot disks

Are you installing SP2 from the set up disks downloaded from Microsoft?

If so, refer this guide from Microsoft - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994
