    rundll32.exe was deleted accidentally

Was trying some things on my PC and came across this rundll32.exe file which I felt suspicious. So I asked my friend about this and he said that it might be a spyware... and I deleted that immediately. Now, without that file, many of the things are not working. I cant even access the control panel. I regret why I deleted that file just because of mere suspicion. I could have confirmed it either.

Anyways, is there any method of getting it back or solving this issue.

Get your Windows CDROM and use "extract" to extract the file from the CD. Use explorer to locate the file, then at the Start-Run prompt type in MSCONFIG and press enter. On there you can click a button to extract the file you want from the Windows CD. Make sure the file you extracted is copied over to the WINDOWS directory, then reboot.

All this is assuming the file is not sitting in the recycle bin when you deleted it?

You can accomplish the same thing by copying d:\i386\rundll32.ex_ to your hard drive, renaming it rundll32.exe and copying to the right location.
(d: refers to the cd drive. It can be different)

Grateful for the replies friends. Unfortunately, I do not have the Windows CD with me. Is it possible to get on the internet or from any other source?

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information.
In System Information, click on Tools and choose System File Checker. Click to choose Extract one file from installation disk, and type the name of the file. Click Start and you should be able to restore the file.

I just got it back. I used Search to search for WIN_17.CAB and from there extracted rundll32.exe from there to C:\WINDOWS.

Sorry to bother everyone. And thanks for the responses.

You can download it here (must have WinZip or similar to extract):
    http://p-nand-q.com/download/tools/rundll32.zip

Extract to the folder it was deleted from, reboot, and see how it goes.

Rundll32.exe is a valid system file which executes a function of a DLL. The actual command may be Rundll32.exe filename.dll, <function-name>, whereas Task Manager reports only the command name and not it's parameter.

Try going to bootdisk.com down load the boot disk to your desktop you might be able to run it from there or just find the file and copy it back to your bootup file.
