No USB support with virtualbox 3.2 on Ubuntu 10.04

Hello friends, I am facing one problem on my desktop, I am not getting the way to come out of this. I am using dual boot between ubuntu 10.04 and Windows XP, on which I have installed Virtual Box 3.2, after installing Virtual Box, I am facing problem in USB driver and IE8. Ubuntu is hosting brainwave in it, I have tried to download USB but not able to do that also, and IE8 is like fell over. So can anyone tell me solution for this? I am waiting for the reply from you, thanks a lot in advance!

Hey I wanted to tell you something about Virtual Box in XP. As per my knowledge with Virtual Box, I must say that it works good with XP, in case of dual boot with Ubuntu, it does not cause any error for USB drive, as I am using the same at my desktop. For USB support, I can say that install guest addition in XP guest account, and after check that it is still giving the problem or not. Well in case of IE8 I must say that Virtual Box doesn’t cause any type of error for IE8, that’s sure. There must be some other error for that.

Hello, I also want to share some information on the Virtual Box topic. I must say that it is the inside problem, and sometime it happens that Ubuntu also may cause USB error, can’t say for IE8. There are command which will be useful for Virtual Box in Ubuntu so just have a look at that, hope this will be helpful for you.

    • grep vbox /etc/group
    • sudo gedit /etc/fstab
    • one /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=groupid,devmode=664 0 0

Note: the above mentioned all command are different.

Hey dude, I am completely agreed with above post, and I also have one solution for you which will be helpful for you to come out of USB error. The below mentioned solution is for Ubuntu OS, so while doing this you should be on Ubuntu.

    • Hit the USB tab which is on left side
    • After that enable USB Controller and USB 2.0 must be selected
    • USB device (any device) should be recognized, if it is not do it then select it manually by pressing add button.
    • After that power on your guest OS and USB should work.

Just follow the above steps, All the Best!
