On the occasion of Christmas, Linus Torvalds, creator of the operating system that bears his name, offered to the entire community the Linux kernel version 2.6.28.
As with every new update, numerous innovations are emerging and many bugs (bugs) are corrected. Among the major new Linux 2.6.28 include in particular the appearance of the ext4 file system as stable. Natural evolution of its predecessor ext3 with which it is perfectly compatible ext4 optimize many aspects of defragmenting files on the fly.
The memory manager for graphics cards GEM (Graphics Execution Manager), which removes the graphics drivers of this task has entered the core and marks the beginning of a profound renovation of the entire graphics system. In addition, the network stack kernel now supports the standard UWB (Ultra Wideband) among others used for Wireless USB. Finally, many drivers are updated and are emerging.
Other new features more obscure and more specific are also involved. All information and downloads of the sources are however from the official site of the kernel, until compiled versions are emerging in package managers distributions.
