Unable to Enable / Disable Windows features in Vista

I am unable to enable/disable features of Windows Vista through

Panel configuration -> Programs and Features -> Enable/Disable Windows features (left)

The window opens, which should list the possibilities (message "Please wait"). However, after about twenty seconds, the message fades, and the window remains hopelessly empty.

Have you installed SP1? It solves many of the bugs which was included in Vista. Try installing SP1 and see if it still continues.

Yes, I have installed SP1. I am having Vista Home Edition. Should I reinstall everything. I can do so, I have the CD's with me. And also, I have dual booted with Windows XP Professional. Hope this will help you.

If you go in panel configuration in the menu under "administrative tools", you will have access to windows ( "services" and "services component"), by right click and properties, you can choose Auto Start Manual, or not start at all

Be careful not to touch services that you know (there are a whole list, which you probably will not recognize a small part, except if you are more aligned than me)

Just see what is in memory and is interfering the system: antivirus, firewall and various utilities. Also I suppose that Windows Defender should be turned off (completely).
