Re: recovering passwords from Opera Wand

While investigating, I figured out that opera stores password in wand.dat which can be found under
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile but as expected it is encrypted and decrypting is not easy and also there is no freeware available to decrypt it. However there are few shareware available.

    Like following :
    http://www.passcape.com/download/opr_setup.exe

    Hope that helps.

How to view saved passwords in Opera wand?
    1. Go to http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/forms.html page, right click on View Passwords button, select Bookmark Link... and add.
    2. Open login page of site you want to view password and make sure login form fields are highlighted by wand in yellow color. Press keyboard shortcut, CTRL+ENTER (or click wand button) and then ESC key quickly.
    3. Open View Passwords bookmarklet from bookmarks to view password.

Google is your best friend, just give it a chance to help you.

    Download: http://speedman.sk/downloads/opera.w...ve.utility.zip

    English Home Page: http://speedman.sk/17operawanddatenglish/

    Directions:
    1. Extract archive to wand.dat file location
    2. Run Unwand IF you have AND forgot Master Wand PW, Retrieve otherwise.
    3. Rename Pass.txt file each time-- to avoid overwriting it on subsequent run.
    4. Complain vigorously to Opera Team to stop mimicking Microsoft with capricious changes & other behavior--in the name of security-- that apart from being nonsensical... insults users' intelligence, in addition to unduly incoveniencing and wasting their time.

PS Yes, Virginia...it's totally free! It may not be kept up with all the constant Opera changes(ergo it may miss one or two logins), but it works with all the latest Opera releases.
