Re: Linux is slower than Windows ?

I am running Ubuntu 7.04 (Linux). Between the time I press the button "Power" (machine cold) and when I have an office ready to use, it happens 45 seconds.

    To be precise:
    • It is true that technically, Windows XP and Vista (gross smelter) start faster than most Linux distributions.
    • However, even if the Windows desktop appears faster, it is not necessarily directly usable (disk-trashing (high disk activity), menus that do not, etc.).. It would take time from which we can really begin to work.
    • Additionally, Windows also suffers the start of essential programs such as antivirus and firewalls (eg ZoneAlarm).
    • The latest Linux distributions have tools to improve the startup time.
    • With current techniques, turn off the computer no longer has any interest, either Windows or Linux. The "hibernate" or "hibernation" really turned off the computer and allows you to resume work without having to spend the boot operating system.
