One reason for missing "NTLDR" - correct location of XP not indicated in
    boot.ini.

Step 1. Boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console
    Step 2. Enter the command attrib -h -r -s c:\boot.ini
Step 3. Delete the file (del c:\boot.ini)
    Step 4. Run bootcfg /rebuild
    Step 5. Run fixboot

please check the CD which you are using for the Formating, that CD might be damaged, and because of that it is not capable of picking up the file from the CD or from the system.

thanks..but it seems i cant get into the recovery console.
problem is before the problem started, after it has booted from the XP CD, followed through the steps it asks me to do...cutting it short i have deleted the previous partitions and thinking it was ok after that for it seems to have no problem. and then it tells that i cant continue because of a missing file...
(sorry, never realized i have to write down the missing file for you to know but too late) so i was hoping you guys out there could give me the step-by-step process (if possible) that i need to do...thanks again!

i have made backup copies of the CD in case something goes wrong with the installer...so i dont think the problem is the CD
