XP Restarts Continuously

My XP PC now refuses to boot and instead continuously restarts. I have tried booting into safe mode, last known good configuration etc but each time it still reboots. I can however boot to the recovery console. Does anyone know how to fix this? Does XP have an equivalent of Windows 98 scanregw /restore ?
Thanks.

XP equivalent of scanreg /restore is in Start / Programs / Accessories /
System Tools / System Restore.

have you checked the power supply? If you have an extra power supply handy
you can plug it in and see if the system boots normally. In worth a try, most reboots in cases such as you described are due to faulty/failing power supplies.

Re: XP Restarts Continuously

A very common (but not the only) cause of this type of error is a damaged hard drive data structure. Usually this produces an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error; and if the default Windows setting to "restart on failure" is in effect you will get the result you are experiencing.

Boot to the Recovery Console and when it stops at the C:\> command
prompt enter the following command:

CHKDSK /R

That may fix the problem.

If not your next option would be a Repair Install of Windows XP

Put in your xp disc, have your computer boot to disc and when it finishes oading! it will ask you what you want to do, press "r" for repair let it boot then it will ask which windows you want to repair there should be only ne so press "1" then it will ask you for an administrator password if you have put one in use it if you have not just press enter!!
then it will have a command prompt!!
you type in chkdsk /p then press enter!! when it finishes type in exit then t should reboot!!
