As expected, Microsoft has made available for download Hyper-V Server 2008, a server operating system exclusively dedicated to virtualization. Available free from the publisher's site, Hyper-V Server 2008 is centered around the hyperviseur Hyper-V, at whose side will find that the few bricks needed for its operation. In early September, Microsoft announced it would finally Hyper-V available free in response to the provision for all of hyperviser ESXi number one worldwide in the field, VMware.
This software is therefore not a true server operating system (it takes in this case turning to Windows Server 2008, in which we find Hyper-V), but as a virtualization solution to run multiple systems on a single physical machine. In terms of compatibility, only constraint is to have a 64-bit processor with virtualization instructions.
Microsoft Hyper-V Server Installation
No frills, Hyper-V Server 2008 has a basic interface, which will serve command lines. This will link with another machine or a domain, configure the settings for connecting to the network (IP address) or activate the remote control. To create virtual machines, configure and operate, it will connect to the system remotely from another machine. The latter must be equipped with Windows Vista SP1 or Windows Server 2008 and the component Hyper-V Manager MMC.
