Can I use my friends Vista CD for installation

I am having Genuine Windows XP Pro 32bit and want to upgrade my system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. Now my question is can't I borrow a Vista Home Premium 32bit disc from my friend and use the CD key of my XP Pro to activate Vista on my system? Or do I need to buy a new Vista CD and get a licensed CD key (a new one) from MS website?

Not sure but it should work. Give it a try. But make sure you back up all your important data before experimenting things.

Definitely, you can do that. Microsoft doesn't care about the actual disc. What matters to them is just the CD key which you need to buy only once and that key will and should work for each and every MS's OS.
