unsure I need help please! Can't reinstall windows ex because I set the PC to reboot in safe mode in msconfig.exe

    Hello all,
i'm new to this so please bear with me.
My PC recently died. I think it was down to a virus.
Before deciding to reinstall windows I tried everything I could to get the machine working again, all to no avail. However, whilst in safe mode I clicked an option on purpose to reboot each time in safe mode.
However, now that I have tried to install windows again I can't get past a certain stage of the setup process because I get a message saying
"windows xp setup cannot run under safemode, setup will restart now"
So I click ok and all it does is keep coming back to this screen.
even if I press f8 to give me the option to start windows normally it still tries to boot in to safe mode.
Can anyone tell me how to get round this and complete the installation?
    Thanks in advance
    Adam.

Can you go in BIOS & set the first boot to CD & then try to install the Operating System?

For instance see similar threads: http://forums.techarena.in/mediacenter/1035070.htm
Aborted XP Home Repair - Now stuck in "setup is being restarted...." loop
    Computer keeps restarting

Can you still get into Safe Mode?
    If so RUN
    msconfig
Select the BOOT.INI tab and make sure /SAFEBOOT is not checked, then reboot

    Try this maybe (maybe not):

Get a Windows XP installation disk, boot into the installation utility.
At some point it'll ask you if you want to go into the RECOVERY CONSOLE
    Enter the recovery console.
The recover console looks like a DOS prompt but normal DOS commands fail.
I think you can type help for a list of commands.
The command you are looking for is "fixboot"
    Type fixboot, hit enter
Whatever happens is quick, then you can type exit or quit (i think)
Then restart and I think it should work.
(so much for the confidence that initiated this post)

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this.
Ok, i've tried all of the above and none if it works.
The problem being that even if I select to boot from the installation disk it still takes me in safe mode and I can't find a way of starting the installation again.
Any ideas people?? i'm stumped. maybe i'll throw the pc out the window!
    peace.

Had the exact same issue - I feel soo stupid - But

Make sure you Windows XP or XP Recovery Disk is in your CD/DVD drive -
Make sure to boot to your Disk Drive
    Go into the recovery console
In the Recovery console - go into Bootcfg
use the command - in recovery console - rebuild
    Bootcfg /rebuild

Now the computer will no longer go into safe mode and your re-installation or new installation of windows xp will complete.
