Reducing Bootup time for Windows

I want to speed up the booting time of my Windows so that it gets to the desktop quickly. I think for this i will have to carry out some mods. Already, i have looked at the different aspects of the Windows like defragmenting, things loaded into the trays, reducing start-up programs, etc. But still want to know if there are any such mods available that will speed up the booting process.

Which Windows OS are you using. XP usually boots faster than its previous versions of Windows OS. If you are in XP only, you can do that with CF cards, but i personally does not use it and like to take Windows its own time to start. Because i know Windows tend to become slow as time passes.

I have heard about the CF cards but dont know how and what to do with them. If i install an 8GB CF card as bootup drive, will it help in speeding the boot time? Or atleast will have some significant effect?

The life cycle of CF cards is based on the read/writes. So even if you install the CF cards, that will not serve for life long or even for longer periods. You will be required to change them periodically which would be a rather costly deal.

I dont mind changing the CF cards periodically. If that is serving me properly, then for the sake of fast boot i am willing to change them every now and then.

If such is the case then you can opt for the CF cards. As CF cards gives faster access time than a hard drive. They also generate significantly less heat than a hard drive. Some programs are also there that can get rid of the trash. This ultimately helps in faster booting.

Try some of these. Might help reduce booting time to some extent.
  • Reduce timeout value in msconfig’s boot.ini tab.

  • Run Bootvis to analyze the boot process and speed it up.

  • Analyze and remove unwanted startup programs. Tools: Startup Inspector

  • Enable boot logging and look at the boot log. (Saved as ntbtlog. txt in the windows folder in NT/XP).

  • Eliminate unwanted fonts to increase boot speed.
