Windows updates can not be installed?

Hi,
I found that tere are n no. of updates that can not be installed. why?
Do i have to install XP again? Is it a faulty installation of XP?

Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix
Use its options to fix:
* Windows Installer
* Windows Update
* All the Registration Center options

Uncheck Empty System32\Catroot 2
Do NOT press Flush SoftwareDistribution.
Click GO and wait until it is done... Reboot may be needed.
Download/Install Windows Update v3.
Download/Install the 927891 patch
Reboot
Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.

Hey i had the simmilar problem here is what i did
Go to the command prompt and type:
net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll
net start wuauserv
exit
That process re-registers the Windows Update dll file.
Now I've installed all updates, including SP3 and everything worked fine.
