| Grub error 17
After installing Linux ubuntu 7.10 a dual boot with Windows XP, I wanted to uninstall Linux. So I deleted the partition of the container of XP, but I forgot to restore the mbr of it before restarting my notebook. At startup, Grub starts before displaying "Grub error 17". I tried to restore Windows from the installation CD, but it is not recognized as a bootable CD, any more than Linux by the way. Is there somebody who knows the way to do this please? Thank you. |

Just change the boot sequence of the BIOS to detect the CD first. |

Unfortunately, it did not work. At startup, and after setting the bios, I had the following message: No bootable cdrom grub loading, please wait grub error 17 I just found a way to create a portable version of XP on a key usb. With a bit of luck, I could start over. |

| Re: Grub error 17
There is a way to avoid this error. Just go into BIOS and in the hard disk mode select "Auto" don't change anyother option. This will make the error disappear. Hope this helps... |
