Cannot install operating system.

I have a gateway computer laptop and I need to reinstall the operating system.
i replace Hard Drive 80GB. I can not install Operating system Windows XP. When i try installing i get error code c000021 hard error.
How can i installa an operating system?

When you got this error? what was your activity before gating the error etc?

dont recover..reformat the harddrive then install the new os

or you could install Linux on your system if you can't do a systems recovery...

Most likely you've recently changed a drive letter in Disk Administrator.

Unfortunately you can only recover with a repair disk.
