| Office 2007 KB936960 Fails to install.
I recently purchased a new computer running Vista Premium and with Office 2007 pre installed. Auto updates are enabled and this is the first problem I have had. This 'Important' update fails every time with error message 'Code 80070663 Get help'. When I click on Get help I get a window open with 12 update errors shown, but not 80070663. So much for getting help. I can find nothing on Microsoft's website. Has anyone any idea of why this update refuses to install? -- PeterW |

Hello Peter, Are you able to download and install the patch manually? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en If it fails please try this... 1. Place the patch in the c:\ 2. open the command prompt (Start, run, type cmd and hit enter) 3. In the black window type cd\ and hit enter. 4. "office2007-kb936960-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /extract:c:\patch" (No quotes) and hit enter. Say yes to the prompt 5. type "cd patch" (No quotes) and hit enter. 6. type "msiexec /p msxml5.msp /L*V C:\patch\office.txt /qb The patch will now install or fail. You can close the black window and look for the file named office.txt in c:\patch. Could you open that file and paste its contents here. We will be able to review the log and find out why it is failing. I am having the same problem as PeterW. Also, after the patch failed to install, all the Microsoft Office Icons suddenly turned to the default file icon, which normally goes with files that are not associated with any program. Double clicking on the files still opens Office (the association is still there), and it seems that besides for the patch failing, and the icons no longer working, everything else is fine. I followed the instructions you left for PeterW, and have included the log below: === Verbose logging started: 8/24/2007 14:23:00 Build type: SHIP UNICODE 4.00.6000.00 Calling process: C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe === MSI (c) (E8:04) [14:23:00:375]: Resetting cached policy values MSI (c) (E8:04) [14:23:00:375]: Machine policy value 'Debug' is 0 MSI (c) (E8:04) [14:23:00:375]: ******* RunEngine: ******* Product: {91120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} ******* Action: ******* CommandLine: ********** MSI (c) (E8:04) [14:23:00:382]: Client-side and UI is none or basic: Running entire install on the server. | Macblaster: Me too....
I followed the process outlined above, and my "office.txt" had functionally identical results to Macblaster's log. DualCitizen |
