Office 2003 SP2 and updates fail to install. install log file has the details

I've got one workstation on my WSUS network that fails the following
updates:
Office 2003 SP2
KB907417 Update for Office 2003
KB932330 Junk email filter Office 2003

I've turned on logging and I have this failure showing up:

How can I fix this error with Office? Orginally the workstation was having
problems uninstalling office so I followed similar procedures to uninstall
Office 2007 manually which worked. I was able to sucessfully install Office
2003 but patching it seems to be problematic.

Any insight or help would be great thanks, Nathaniel.

This installation is from a network share with a custom MST file.
After doing those changes you suggested the setup.exe wizard doesn't display
it's self when I launch it (from the CD or from the network share). Event
log posts this in the application log:

I believe after examining regedit that the error in my orginal post is due
to the patches that were installed for Office 2003. Perhaps I could erase
all the regedit entries for the office patches that may still be in the
%windir%\Installer directory?
