    All Office Updates failed on Windows XP

    I had installed Windows XP recently. Everything went fine with all Updates. Then I installed Office 2003. But while running updates for Office, it failed. No updates were installed at all. I am getting error related to Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. The security failed to installed and Office Repair is also not giving much help. Instead of re-installing all stuff again and again, I had performed repair setup a number of time. But nothing worked out. When I run Repair setup I get a error that installation is ended due to some issue. The error codes are listed below. I am using Office Professional Edition 2003. How to fix this thing get all the updates working well.
    • Outlook = Error Code: 0x80070643
    • Word = Error Code: 0x80070643
    • PowerPoint = Error Code: 0x80070643

    re: All Office Updates failed on Windows XP

    I am too trying to find the right solution for the issue. Although I had tried a number of stuff, some things look stable. First the error was related to office update that crashed in between. The error was somewhat related to Office 2003 Service Pack. The KB article 884298 showed up a bit highlight to deals with the errors. The article clearly says that the issue appear due to corrupt registry. The procedure mentioned in KB article 832672 was a bit helpful to some extent. It tells you to find the product code guids which are needed for the configuration setup. I am listing below some registry keys will will give you the information on product code guids of Office 2003. I hope this would be common for all.
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{90170409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0050048383C9}; (this is FrontPage 2003)
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{90240409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}; (this is Office 2003 Resource Kit) and
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{90300409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0050048383C9}

    In my system I had upgraded the Office suite. I had not installed in from scratch. So here I am bit doubtful about the steps to recreate the installation source inside Windows registry. The KB article 884298 offers a clear info in dealing with the Office error where mostly installation fails. Another KB article 884290 provides info dealing with the fixing the update installation using the log files. You can find the details of the log in kb article. In my system there are many things repeated under msi.log file. At last I used Microsoft Live Safety Center Registry Cleaner to fix the issue. It looks to be working fine now.

    I was quiet shock to find that Detect and Repair was not working. Now all of us are not capable to perform those complex operation. The re-installation too failed to get the right updates working. The above solution put more highlight on the problem. I will refer the kb articles and will try to find more proper steps on the same.

    Isn't there a easy way that can do this. My friend suggested me to go with manual setup. But that look complicated to some extent. I had downloaded the updates manually from Microsoft and thought it would work well. The problem mostly lies with Auto update. I face the same issue while applying a security update for XP, while manual update worked. The CD installation is needed under this case. If the error appeared report that to Microsoft.

    It can be fixed by making Office Source Engine service work properly from Control Panel. For that you have to go in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Or simply type services.msc in the Start > Run box and hit enter. In that look for Office Source Engine and right click on that. Then type manual and hit ok. Restart your pc and check back.

    office updates error fix?

    My issue is related to Word Viewer update. I checked the log file where the update KB934041, KB920813, KB934180, KB919029, KB919029 and KB924424 failed. I cannot ignore all this updates to be failed. The error on the screen says that some debug error 2746. I had cleaned my system by a registry cleaner but that did not worked out well. I also tried to remove and install the same back again a number of time.

    office updates errors

    Hi Eric,
    the errors I have got when I was trying to update MS Office 2003 were in czech language, I enclose them. The "UpgradeOfficeProblem0708041259.PNG" is a pop-up windows saying: "Some of upgrades cannot be installed";
    "UpgradeOfficeProblem0708041359.png" is a pop-up windows "Error details".
    "UpgradeOfficeProblem0708041349.png" is a final screen from the "Windows update tool" from MSIE: "Installation results".
    I hope this will help you.
    Regards
    Frantisek Opravil
