Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB916521) fails to install

I've tried many times to install this update both via the automatic updates
and also manually - all with the same failure to install. I've tried
retoring and repairing Outlook but that to fails with an unknown error. Is
the registry corrupt?

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

KB916521 Junk Update Office 2003 -A SOLUTION

Problem is destructin of registry keys CAUSED BY running MICROSOFT LIVE
SAFETY CENTER REGISTRY CLEANER!!
Restore them with a double click on the .reg backup file in C:\Documents and
Settings\<user>\Applicaion Data\Windows Live Safety Center\Backup.
Nice one, Microsoft.

Imagine that, a MS products causes another to fail.

MS has known about this since the debut of Windows Live Safety Center; at
least since March 2006 or earlier. And no official fix, just this little
post.

The solution provided here did work for me. FINALLY-THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS
GOING TO REINSTALL OFFICE.

MS better spread the word or come out with an update to fix this for the
hundreds of thousands of people affected by this.

This worked for me.

Unfortunate thing is that I went to add/remove and clicked change to try to
repair which failed, even reinstall failed, i had to uninstall and then
install as a new installation.

Luckily I was pissed off enough to try to find a better solution for the
remaining PC's and thats when I found this subject.

Only looked because this months Tuesday release for Word and PowerPoint
failed too.

Will Microsoft fix this !!!

ok, i tried this fix because it sounds exactly like my problem.... no Office
updates will install since i used Microsoft's Registry Cleaner... but when i
try to add the info in the .reg file it tells me there is an error accessing
the registry... now what??

Try this, I haven't been able to install any office updates for over a year
then an error report I could actually use popped up:
Right click on My Computer
Select Manage in the window
Once the application starts select Services & Applications
Then Select Services
In the list of services, find and click on Office Source Engine
Then in the top right corner of the application window, click Start Service

Then try to install the updates
I rebooted my PC on my own initiative before trying the update again and it
worked.
All 8 security updates I needed installed first time.
