| Missing file: wordret.msi
I am having a similar problem to Dumana's. I cannot install updates (Office Service Pack 3) because of a missing file, wordret.msi. This file can't be located on my hard drive or on my Office 2000 Premium SR-1 CD, and using the "Detect and Repair" function on MS Word (as recommended on the Assistance page of the MS website) didn't help. I don't have Microsoft Works installed on my computer, and there is no separate listing for MS Word on the "Add or Remove Programs" list of the Control Panel. I can't figure out what to do - could somebody please help? |

It sounds like there may have been at one time a copy of MS Works suite or Word installed. Use Start=>Search on your hard drive to see how many instances of (not shortcuts to) Winword.exe it locates. You may want to use the MS Installer Cleanup utility to remove the tracks of a separate MS Word installation from the registry and then to repair the Office isntallation. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us?FR=1 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/he...185721033.aspx |

I've tried everything suggested and nothing has fixed the problem: Windows configures Microsoft Word 2002, then I get error 1706, then it asks to install Microsoft Works Suite 2002 disk 1, then it asks for Word 2002 and now it asks that I install Windows XP Professional CD even though I don't have that on my computer (I have Home Edition). Hi Peter: I would say thanks but you wouldn't believe what I had to do to just check your message. I can no longer click on a link and have it work. I had to cut and paste. The worst problem is that I cut and pasted the link you gave me to microsoft but the error I get states "webpage unavailable". I've tried several times and can't get it to work. Paula Now I can't do a system restore or anything. My printer won't even print. I guess I'm going to have to take my computer in and hopefully someone will know what to do. |
