Word Cannot start the converter mswrd632.wpc

I am using office 2003 on Windows XP desktop. Today morning I got some notification about the security updates, I went for the same and installed the updates. Since then whenever am trying to open Word, it gives me and error every time stating “Word Cannot start the converter mswrd632.wpc”.

I don’t know anything about fixing this hence dint tried any troubleshooting yet. Waiting for you guys suggestion. Please help.

i found some solution regarding this at one Microsoft Knowledge Database. According to them the error mentioned above occurs when a file having plain text or any other format (non Word binary file) but has the extension .doc, you will get that error if you try opening it in MS Word. That could be the case in your situation.

• Lets try out the solution mentioned there:
• Open registry editor by typing ‘regedit’ in Start > Run.
• Navigate to the following location:
  

  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text Converters\Import\MSWord6.wpc

• Click on Edit Menu and select Delete.
• Now close registry editor and restart the system.

Thanks for your help buddy that din’t helped me. As you said I deleted that registry key but since then the files open with only unprintable characters.

I also tried manual fix and automatic fix provided on the URL given above but that too unsuccessful.
